Celebrating Our Client Heroes – Graham Powell
Take a ride with John Hewson in his ’65 Barracuda and he will probably have a little Harry Nillson tuned up high. Taylor is the Van Morrison, Paul Simon kind of guy where nothing is more perfect than Sunday Morning streaming on – you guessed it – Sunday morning! Connor, well he has chased Sam Roberts and a few other well loved bands all over Canada and incidentally rocked the night away on the guitar at his own wedding. All three are music geeks and music is certainly part of the TCM culture.
When the chance to interview Graham Powell for client heroes came up, well let’s just say it was music to everyone’s ears. (sorry that’s a bit cliché but so true!). Graham is a multi talented artist who lives life full on. Having been a guitarist for Jann Arden for 20+ years, as well as being an active photographer (yup, the same photographer who took our great pics in the TCM magazine) and videographer – he’s kind of a busy guy. Busy doing what he loves. And that kind of passion just rocks our world.
Here are some highlights of our conversation:
What is your occupation?
Musician/Photographer/Internet Programmer
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Billing and keeping my records up to date
Where do you live?
Toronto, ON
Where are you from originally?
I grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and was born in Calgary, Alberta.
What is your favourite quote?
“The squeaky wheel gets replaced” and “Waste not want not.”
What is your favourite hobby?
Right now I am building and flying a quadcopter and hexacopter used for aerial photography (and videography). Although it’s turning in to an occupation now more than a hobby, which is the BEST kind of hobby really, or should I say, the best kind of occupation…
If you had a chance for do-over in life, what would you do differently?
Nothing (except maybe holding onto my Apple shares before the iPhone came out).
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
That I bought Apple stock.
My proudest money moment:
Being able to lend my mother money!
My favourite splurge:
Probably my hexacopter.
Financial security to me means…
Not having to worry about anything.
If you could ask a financial planner any question, what would it be?
What are some of the variables that I should consider when assessing whether to remove some of the equity from my home and use it for other investment purposes?
TCM: Graham’s question is one that is on the minds of many of our clients and Taylor Hewson is looking forward to answering it in our next blog. The answer won’t be the same for everyone – and that’s what makes it so interesting.
Here’s to living life to the music. Play on, Play on.
