What do donuts and underwear have in common? They both appear in the favourite quotes of this round of Client Heroes!
For most, saving for retirement is the number one money focus. After all, it can be quite a daunting task. Jane and Bob have already taken care of that goal through automatic monthly contributions, but that doesn’t mean they are not interested in making the very best decisions when it comes to their future.
Between balancing favourite splurges, and reaching their definition of financial freedom, these two know there is always more to learn.
What is your occupation?
Jane: Retired craft class teacher / currently a Grandma
Bob: Lawyer
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
Jane: I was approached to train for the Olympics in Track & Field.
Bob: I’ve driven a NASCAR.
What is your favourite quote?
Jane: “As you go through life make this your goal: watch the donut not the hole.” – Burl Ives
Bob: “Semper ubi sub ubi” which in grade nine Latin means “Always where under where”.
My proudest money moment:
Both: We think we’ve provided for a financially comfortable retirement through automatic monthly contributions.
What is your top money frustration?
Both: It would have been nice to start saving earlier. We didn’t start until our late 30s.
Financial security to me means . . .
Both: That we’ve got enough money to deal with most contingencies.
What is your favourite splurge?
Jane: A family holiday with kids, grandkids, siblings, etc.
Bob: As my daughter-in-law says, “It’s parked in the driveway.”
If you had a chance for one do-over in life, what would you do differently?
Both: Nothing.
If you could ask a financial planner any question, what would it be?
Both: How do you achieve sound long-term growth with your investments?
